The carbon emissions factors that we use to calculate carbon intensity for our indicator dial on app.ems.co.nz and data feeds have had an update. We use figures derived from generators, as well as publicly available reports from the MBIE website. The factors are applied to generation data from the different generators in near real-time.

This provides a real-time total of tonnes of CO2 per MWh consumed, as well as a break down on the volume weighted average of tonnes of CO2 generated by the following generation types; Coal (CG), Gas (GAS), Geothermal (GEO), Co-generation (COG) and Liquid (LIQ).
